What to See and Do

  • The Hamlet Itself — Gerolimenas is a cluster of stone buildings around a tiny natural harbour. There are no souvenir shops, no beach bars — just the sound of the sea and the simplicity of a place that has barely changed in a century.
  • Tower Villages — The surrounding area contains some of the most impressive tower settlements in the Mani. Vatheia, just 8 km south, is an abandoned hilltop village of over 70 towers — one of the most photographed sites in Greece.
  • Cape Tainaron — The southernmost point of mainland Greece and continental Europe is 30 km south of Gerolimenas. A short hike from the car park leads to an ancient lighthouse and, according to myth, one of the entrances to the underworld.
  • Swimming — The coast around Gerolimenas is rocky but spectacular. Small pebble coves with crystal-clear water are accessible on foot. The water is among the cleanest in the Mediterranean.
