Yes — Nafplio is 20 minutes from Mycenae and is one of the most beautiful towns in Greece. Combining Nafplio’s Venetian old town with Mycenae makes an excellent afternoon if you have already visited Epidaurus in the morning. If you wish to spend meaningful time in all three locations, an earlier start and a slightly quicker pace at each site is required. Discuss the itinerary with your driver.
Both are engaging for older children who have some knowledge of ancient Greece. Epidaurus is arguably more dramatic — the theatre is immersive and the acoustics demonstration (a guide drops a coin on stage and you hear it from the top row) delights visitors of all ages. Mycenae’s Lion Gate and the underground Treasury of Atreus tend to capture children’s imagination powerfully. We recommend both.
Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are ideal — comfortable temperatures, soft light and smaller crowds. Summer visits are possible but both sites are fully exposed. An early start (before 10:00) is essential in July and August.
