Voidokoilia is one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece — perhaps in all of Europe. Its perfect omega-shaped arc of pale sand, bordered by the Gialova Lagoon and the ancient hilltop fortress of Paleokastro, is an image that stays with visitors for a lifetime. Combined with the Venetian harbour town of Pylos and its Niokastro castle, this tour offers a near-perfect day in western Messinia. A private transfer from Kalamata or Costa Navarino makes it entirely your own.
The beach itself is accessed on foot from the Gialova car park — a flat, easy 15-minute walk across the lagoon path and the coastal dunes. There is no road access to the beach and no development on it whatsoever. This is precisely what makes it special. The walk is suitable for all fitness levels; if you choose to continue to Paleokastro, the hike is steeper and takes approximately 20 minutes from the beach.
The beach is beautiful in every season, but it is most impressive in late spring (May–June) when the water is warming, the dune vegetation is in flower and the lagoon is full of migratory birds. In July and August it is more crowded, though never overwhelmingly so given the walk required to reach it. October visits offer warm water, golden light and complete solitude.
Yes — this is one of our most popular combination tours. The Palace of Nestor is only 15 km from the Gialova lagoon. We recommend visiting the Palace in the morning (opening at 08:30), stopping in Chora for the museum, then driving to Voidokoilia for the beach in late morning before lunch in Pylos. The Pylos & Voidokoilia tour and the Palace of Nestor tour are natural complements.
