Yes, and we strongly recommend it. Mystras, the Byzantine ghost city near Sparta, is approximately 45 minutes north of Gythio. Many guests visit Mystras in the morning and continue to Gythio in the afternoon. We offer flexible day trips that cover both.
Gythio works well as a base for the eastern side of the Mani. Areopoli is 20 minutes away, the Diros Caves are 30 minutes, and Deep Mani villages like Gerolimenas and Vatheia are within an hour. The western Mani (Stoupa, Kardamili) is accessible via Areopoli in about 45 minutes.
Gythio has a port with seasonal ferry services to Kythira and Crete (Kissamos). Schedules are limited and change each year, so we recommend checking current timetables in advance. We can arrange transfers to and from the ferry terminal.
